rationalistdiasporaI was never particularly active on Tumblr, in part because the dynamics of that website really bothered me.
I can't really introduce myself in terms of a previous persona, because this is at least a semi-anon blog and I'd kind of prefer most people didn't link it to other stuff I do on the Internet.
Besides my short introductory post, you should know that this blog will be primarily focused on the history & philosophy of Extropianism. Or as it is more commonly known these days, Transhumanism. (I, like many other people have significant objections to Transhumanism as a name because it conjures up a sort of supervillain-like aesthetic)
In practice that means notes on my research into the subject, editorials on different topics from the perspective of taking cosmic scale concerns and x-risk seriously, and perhaps the occasional dark ritual to help conjure up our suppressed ancestral abilities. I look forward to exchanging letters with you all.

Date: 2019-01-01 11:27 pm (UTC)That treats them as synonyms, which I never thought they were, and I spent several years on the Extropians list. I'd say Ex was one branch of H+, with a particularly libertarianish bent.

Date: 2019-01-02 02:25 am (UTC)You are in strict terms correct. Beyond that, I'm not really interested in getting into an extended dialogue about this yet. I feel like it would be best to have it once I've had some time to really get my ducks in a row and do a post or two reviewing the history of the H+/Transhumanism/Extropian/sl4/etc cluster of ideas.
I will however say that my basic attitude is that these are (Extropian vs. H+, say), zooming out a bit and taking a perspective outside of the trenches of these subcultures, much the same thing in slightly different formulations. So my primary consideration when choosing a name is which one seems best constructed with the least obvious baggage. If that makes some old guard folk angry, so be it.
